Artist. Researcher. Renaissance woman.
Ruth Mateus-Berr is an Austrian conceptual artist. She has created drawings, paintings, sculptures, videos, installations, performed and worked with various media. She is a professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and also a multisensual design researcher, always exploring new fields. Her award-winning works deal with artistic research, critical design, digital humanism, the social development goals, urbanism, art & dementia and health. Her latest artistic research project "DEMEDARTS" (funded by FWF PEEK AR-609) aims to awaken more empathy for people with dementia in our society.

Ruth Mateus-Berr’s recent work brings together artistic research, painting, design, and social engagement within a transdisciplinary practice. Through Archives of the Living, she develops painting as a living archive in which each region or cultural forum becomes the starting point for site-specific research, transforming endangered plant species into carriers of ecological, cultural, and historical memory. Whenever possible, these projects are realised in collaboration with local researchers, institutions, botanical gardens, archives, and other partners. Mental Load makes invisible care, cognitive, and emotional labour visible, reflecting on the social, political, and gendered dimensions of responsibility and care, while collaborations with artists, curators, and local partners form an integral part of the project. In the international research project DEMEDARTS, she investigates the potential of artistic and design-based methods in the context of dementia and, together with international research partners, cultural and care institutions, people living with dementia, family members, and interested participants, develops innovative educational and mediation formats that understand art as a medium for participation, memory, and quality of life. #Exhibititor #Panel #Debate #Podium #Performer #Artist
